Über Zäune springen (Jumping Over Fences), a short piece I wrote in 2023, is now publicly available.
In it, I reflect on the act of jumping fences, drawing from Georg Simmel’s concept of boundaries as social constructs with spatial power. Crossing a fence is not just physical; it is a mental transgression that challenges conventions and blurs categories like inside and outside, private and public. Bodily action creates new awareness, as seen in the Stalker collective’s urban walks and my own experience at Villa Lante, where jumping a wall dissolved the lines between wildness and order. Such acts can challenge binary thinking by temporarily revealing new spatial and intellectual terrain.
The article was published in “Terrain Vogue“, the last issue of the Pamphlet series, which was a special issue in honor of Professor Christophe Girot on the occasion of his retirement.
